Greg Mortenson to visit Fremont
Plans have now been finalized for Greg Mortenson’s visit to Fremont on March 3, 2009. Two appearances are planned: an afternoon event for school children, their parents, their teachers and the public, and an evening event for adults.
The two “ticket” links shown below provide access to separate registration pages for the two events. After reaching the selected registration page click “Register Now” and then select “Option C, Guest Access”, to start the registration process. Feel free to lie about your age. If you’re buying a ticket for someone else, enter their name. Print the ticket and bring it with you to the event.
The afternoon event is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Guy Emanuele Pavilion at Logan High School. The Pavilion is located at 1800 “H” Street in Union City (CA 94587). Tickets for this appearance are available at a cost of $13.50.
The evening event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Diamond Palace, located at 4100 Peralta Blvd in Fremont (CA 94536). Tickets for this get-together are also available at a cost of $13.50.
At the afternoon children’s event, selected students, their teachers and parents from Fremont, Newark and Union City will be seated in the bleachers, which hold about 1600 people. An additional 750 seats will be available on the main floor for the public.
Greg Mortenson will talk about his book Three Cups of Tea and the work he has done to build schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan for children, especially girls, at this one hour presentation. He will also accept a check from our children, who have raised nearly $30,000 for his non-profit Central Asia Institute.
The Diamond Palace where Greg will make his second appearance, accomodates about 1000 guests. Greg will begin his evening appearance with a brief presentation (7:30 to 8:15 pm), and will then sign copies of his book until 10:15 pm.
An additional Special Session is scheduled for 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Diamond Palace. It will provide an opportunity for a more personal meeting with Greg Mortenson. There willl be 15 minutes of group conversation followed by a book signing, photo oportunites, and Afghan & Pakistani refreshments. Attendance will be limited to 25 people at $150 each. This event is our AAUW fundraiser to help defray the costs of bringing Greg to Fremont. To make a reservation contact Genevieve at 510-797-3570. Only 10 tickets remain.
“Please join us for this unique opportunity to hear, see and enjoy one of America’s most remarkable authors and humanitarians. It’s a great privilege to have him come to our area,” said Genevieve Angelides, chairperson of AAUW’s Three Cups of Tea program.
