ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, MIRACLE BY BARBARA KINGSOLVER
is One Book, One Community Selection for 2009-2010
FREMONT, CA., September 8, 2009: AAUW (The American Association of University Women) Fremont Branch announced that Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by famed author Barbara Kingsolver, is the next book in the One Book, One Community shared literacy program.
“Last year,” said chairperson of the One Book, One Community 2009-2010 project and AAUW Fremont Branch member Margery Leonard, “we went with an international theme and this year it seems appropriate to focus our attention locally and celebrate the rich abundance of foods in our area.”
“Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, by Barbara Kingsolver, who is author of 12 fiction and non-fiction books, is part memoir, part cookbook, part biology text and part social commentary,” said Margery. “Ms. Kingsolver reminds us that ‘You are what you eat,’ and challenges us to employ food habits that are healthy for the body, the farming culture and the environment.”
The campaign officially opens with an orientation for book discussion group leaders on September 22, at 6 p.m., in Fukaya Room A at the Fremont Main Library. This session is open to the public.
Beginning in October, discussion groups have been scheduled at the times shown in the Book Talk Schedule.
“This is a great read that all Fremont will enjoy,” said Margery Leonard. “I ask you to join us once again for an exciting reading adventure.”
