Dale Hardware hosted the first ever Animal, Vegetable, Miracle book talk.
Some 10 Kingsolver enthusiasts attended the first Animal, Vegetable, Miracle book talk at Dale Hardware.
This first discussion session was led by AAUW member Sandy Cashmark. She cited Dale Hardware for being our hospitable, community-oriented first host.
“Dale Hardware,” said Sandy, “represents what Barbara Kingsolver is touting in her book. It’s about having a relationship with local foods and local, family-owned businesses. This is also what ‘neighborhood’ is all about.”
The Fremont business went all out to make certain the book talk was a success. The company had pastries and juice for attendees and donated a door prize of a lawn sculpture. Dale’s employees wandered over to hear the discussion and later shared their views and heartfelt interest in AAUW.
About half of those who attended had read the book. Discussion leader Sandy did a masterful job of presenting enough detail so that everyone could be involved in the discussion.
AAUW’s Jo Szeto introduced Sandy and told the attendees how our association got involved in the One Book, One Community project.
The next discussion (you won’t want to miss it!) is to be held at The Niles Café from 2 to 3 p.m. on October 23.
